Details for CPR Classes

BLS (Basic Life Support) & Heartsaver courses are designed for anyone, including Teens & adults, who needs a course completion card for regulatory (OSHA, etc.) or employment requirements. There is no prerequisite to take these courses. Upon completion, students will receive a course completion, card valid for 2 years.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) PROVIDER CPR

  Cost: $60

Approximate Course Length: 3 Hours

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider CPR is the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification required by most healthcare professionals.


  • The BLS CPR course covers all the same topics as the Heartsaver CPR course. Topics like CPR for adults, children, and infants. Scene safety, assessment, chest compression, and breathing techniques for all age groups. Use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), special breathing techniques, and choking. 


  • The BLS CPR course also covers a few additional topics: checking the pulse, using a bag-mask device, and team rescue procedures. The language used in the course is technical and includes some medical terminology. 


Who Needs Basic Life Support CPR?


  • Anyone can take BLS! You do not need to be licensed, or a healthcare professional! 


  • Some licensed professionals are required to take the BLS course to renew their license or to maintain employment requirements. 


  • Some professions which may require BLS certification are: Registered Nurses (RN), Emergency Medical Transport (EMT), Paramedic, Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Home Health Aid (HHA), Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Psychiatric Technician, Occupational Therapist (OT), Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), Pharmacist, Physical Therapist (PT), Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), Dentist, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, and Personal Trainer.

HEARTSAVER (FIRST AID & CPR / AED)

 Cost: $90 (book included)

Approximate Course Length: 6 hours

  • Teachers (clear credentials), summer camp counselors, coaches, foster care participants, social workers, maritime employees (US Coast Guard approved), nannies, parents, grandparents, babysitters (ten years or older), construction workers, acupuncture students (approved by State of CA Acupuncture Board), and general workplace employees.

The AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Course is designed for anyone involved in childcare who has a duty to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Including: childcare workers, teachers, camp counselors, etc.


What does this course teach?


  •  How to administer adult, child and infant CPR.
  •  The proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  •  How to provide effective support for conscious and unconscious choking victims of all ages.
  •  The dangers associated with pediatric asthma and anaphylaxis.

Approximate Course Length: 1 hour

The Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens course teaches students how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials. This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction. This course reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).


Who should take this course?


  • The AHA Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Course is designed for anyone with a reasonable chance of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens such as: Correctional Officers, Childcare workers, Security guards, Maintenance workers, School personnel, Hotel housekeepers, Health and fitness club staff, and Tattoo artists.

If you do not show up or are late for a class, you have 2 months to re-take another course at no extra cost. Please give us notice if you plan on re-scheduling so that we can reserve you a seat.
